It's official: Lenovo owns Motorola
Lenovo isn't a well-known brand when it comes to smartphones, but the company is a major player in the laptop market, where it usually ranks #1 or #2 in worldwide sales for any given quarter. Lenovo hopes to combine Motorola's brand with its distribution network and the aggressive pricing that allows it to be number one in the low-margin, highly-competitive laptop business.
Under Google, Motorola has been one of the more exciting OEMs out there. It produced the first round Andorid Wear device, the Moto 360, and great flagships like the Moto X. It made best-in-class low-end phones with the Moto G and Moto E, and now with Google it produced the Nexus 6.
Motorola's software has been great, too. The company was the only large OEM to take the frequently-given advice to use stock Android, and it paid off for them with fast devices and a great user experience. Motorola outclassed everyone when it came time to update its devices, too—it beat all other OEMs in our update survey. While the OS was stock Android, Motorola still differentiated itself with great apps and hardware features. Always-on voice recognition used a combination of hardware and software to create one of the best smartphone features we've seen an OEM come up with. The feature was so good that Google integrated it into Android 5.0, bringing always-on voice commands to any Android OEM that wants to use it.
Now it's up to Lenovo to not screw things up. In the blog post, Motorola states that they will "continue to focus on pure Android and fast upgrades," so it sounds like Lenovo won't mess with a good thing. When Google took over Motorola, it said it "inherited 12 to 18 months of product pipeline." The Google/Motorola deal closed in May of 2012, and sure enough, 15 months later we saw the first Moto X. It's safe to assume Lenovo's Motorola takeover will follow a similar schedule, so expect to wait about a year before we see any real changes.

Samsung said on Friday that it will start selling the Galaxy A3 and A5 in China sometime in November. It classified them as mid-tier, and said they will be launched in other “select markets”, without disclosing the pricing.
The announcement, combined with hopes for an earnings recovery and bigger dividends, pushed Samsung’s shares to a two-month high in Seoul in midday trade on Friday.
The news comes a day after Samsung reported its worst quarterly operating profit in more than three years. Earnings from its handset division slumped 73.9 percent from a year earlier.
The company said its responses to “rapid shifts in the competitive landscape” were not quick enough. It vowed to revamp its offerings.
“For our mid to low-end smartphones we will enhance product competitiveness by differentiating our displays and materials as well as upgrading camera functionality,” Senior Vice President Kim Hyun-joon told analysts on Thursday.
The world’s smartphone leader is regrouping as it lost market share in annual terms for the third straight quarter in July-September, according to Strategy Analytics.
It has been beaten by Apple Inc’s iPhones in the premium segment and undercut by Chinese rivals like Lenovo Group Ltd and Xiaomi Inc at the bottom end.
Samsung will likely accept lower margins going forward to preserve market share and growth volume, analysts said. But most do not expect a firm recovery until mid-2015 at the earliest.
“A lineup change is a costly process, just like re-doing your home interior design,” said KTB Investment analyst Jin Sung-hye.

Kariavattom International Greenfield Stadium which is pegged as the ‘first world-class stadium’ in Kerala is fast nearing completion
According to a statement released by the NGOC, the stadium has met global standards prescribed by FIFA and ICC. It is also the first of its kind in the country being built under PPP (Private Public Participation) model
The Greenfield Stadium strictly follows the National Building Norms. It has also attained clearance from the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority and the Pollution Control Board.
The stadium is divided into four zones with the north zone kept for cricket while the east is for football. Each zone will have facilities such as players’ lounge, gymnasium, media centre and stock room. The south zone will house malls and food courts. The stadium also has indoor facilities for the Games, which include two squash and volleyball courts each, besides a basketball court and a facility to play table tennis. A state-of-the-art Olympic size swimming pool is also there besides a children’s pool.
Other facilities include retail space, gymnasium, convention centre, dormitories, and lighting, making it suitable for holding day and night events, said the statement.
Spread over 37 acres, stadium would be the venue of the opening and closing ceremonies of the 35th edition of the National Games, to be held in the state next year.
